Frequently Asked Questions
Jaygee Cassettes have been selling the Jaygee Babysooth® sounds as 'The
Baby Soother'™ 1) Does it work? The short answer is 'yes'. Over 9 out of 10 babies will calm to the
sounds of Babysooth®. 2) Will it put my baby to sleep? Probably. In our research we found about 50% of babies drifted off to sleep on hearing the sounds. The Jaygee Babysooth® sounds are meant to be an aid of last resort, so if baby has been fed, nappy (diaper) changed and is naturally tired then s/he will probably go to sleep. If s/he is naturally wide awake but just fractious then s/he should be calmed by the sounds as long as they are playing but not go to sleep. Alas the Jaygee Babysooth® sounds will not affect the number of times s/he will wake in the night - but it helps with night time feeding and resettling. 3) Is it a good thing to use? We believe it is. The Babysoother ™cassette was used on the founders' two children who are now adults, emotionally well-balanced, intelligent and well-educated people. Research in the area of language development has found that if baby cries incessantly, after a while parents react by ignoring the cries - and the baby. This becomes the norm and later - when the child starts to speak s/he is still ignored and thus is not communicated with fully. We have all witnessed this in the supermarket where baby is screaming blue murder, everyone else is concerned but mum is obliviously doing her shopping. She has begun to selectively ignore her baby. We have been told that the Jaygee Babysooth® sounds will help stop that cycle beginning. Also it helps create positive emotional neuro pathways - i.e. you can relax with your newborn which means you treat her/him in a more loving way and therefore do not get frustrated, angry and aggressive which in turn creates gentleness and happiness in the baby. 4) Is Babysooth addictive? It is addictive in the harmless way that a cuddly toy or a 'comforter' such as a teddy etc. is addictive. Over the years we have had parents telling us about their 2 year olds taking themselves off to bed with their Jaygee Babysooth® CD or Babysoother™cassette and wanting it on to go to sleep with. In the main the sounds tend to 'fade' out of a baby's life because they are no longer needed. 5) What if my baby is ill? The Jaygee Babysooth® sounds will HELP diagnose illness - if they are established and a behaviour pattern noted. For example, baby Jeffrey at 6 months was put to down to sleep one evening as normal, and his Babysoother™ cassette put on. After his usual 8 minutes he went quiet, but instead of going to sleep as per normal he suddenly let out a yell every few minutes. When the tape was played through a second time he resumed crying. This was very unusual. He was checked through for clean diaper/nappy and offered more drink. Once a gain he did not settle with his tape. Sure enough - on further investigation the doctor was called who diagnosed a chest infection. Before starting him on the Baby Soother™cassette he would have probably been left to cry for his usual extended period of around 4 hours, his feverishness would have been put down to him getting in a state and the whole thing would have wound up in frustration and anger on both the part of the infant and the frazzled parents. Very many similar stories have been repeated by parents about many different babies over the years. Also when your baby is ill, the Jaygee Babysooth® sounds can have a soothing effect which will aid recovery. 6) Is Babysooth better than medicine? Absolutely, and it gives you a greater degree of control. Prior to discovery of the Jaygee Babysooth® sounds, baby Jeffrey was given a drug by the family doctor to help alleviate the family's distress at his crying. It was a drug for skin conditions and had drowsiness as a side-effect. It helped a little, but what if the baby was ill and the drug masked that illness? What if there were other side effects? Was it right to give a month-old baby a powerful drug like this? Once a baby is given a dose of medicine that is it. But with a sound calming your baby, YOU are in control of the on/off switch and the sound can be turned off at any point. 7)Yes... but what is pink noise? Pink noise is a band of sound within the white noise spectrum. The latter includes very low and high frequencies which we believe could harm hearing - so the top and bottom frequencies are not present. The frequencies present are within the range of an average speaking voice and a mother's womb.
